Let's get this right, Washington!

Happy holidays, everyone.

Stylists have been asking for better training for years — and clients have been asking for more competent, consistent care.

There’s a Washington State House Bill moving through the system right now that’s intended to make cosmetology education more inclusive for curly, coily, and kinky hair. The intent is good. The goal is admirable. But the wording needs to be corrected for the bill to actually create meaningful change.

Right now, the bill relies on the word texture when what it’s truly addressing is hair pattern. Those are not the same thing in professional hair education, and that distinction matters if we want schools to actually teach the skills required to serve all hair types well.

I’ve created a simple public comment template you can copy and submit in under a minute.

Written comments matter most. They become part of the official public record and must be reviewed.

📅 Public hearing is tentatively scheduled for January 6.

If you’re able to attend the hearing, that’s great — but please submit a written comment either way.

This is how we make sure this bill does what it says it’s going to do — for stylists, for clients, and for the future of hair education in Washington.
