As we move into spring and summer, we wanted to finally pause and share a meaningful update about what’s been happening behind the scenes at Left Coast Salon.

Over the last several months, we’ve continued participating in ongoing conversations with Washington State and national industry leaders surrounding cosmetology education, technical standards, and equitable access to basic hair and scalp care.

What began as community feedback and local advocacy has grown into something much larger than we originally imagined.

The education system we’ve spent the last five years building inside Left Coast Salon — Contextual Salon Education™ — is now being recognized as part of a much bigger conversation about the future of salon education and professional standards.

Since our last update:

✨ We were invited to continue discussions with the Washington State Department of Licensing

✨ We connected directly with representatives from the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC)

✨ We’ve begun contributing feedback regarding national testing standards, curriculum gaps, and inclusive technical competency within the beauty industry

For us, this work has never been about trends or politics.

It’s about creating real career pathways for beauty professionals and ensuring communities have access to knowledgeable, technically capable, psychologically safe service providers who can confidently work with all textures, patterns, and people.

The most important part is this:

Everything being discussed was built through real-world salon work right here inside Left Coast Salon.

Every client appointment.

Every resident training.

Every consultation.

Every piece of feedback.

Every correction.

Every lesson.

You’ve helped shape this work simply by sitting in our chairs, trusting our team, and growing alongside us.

On the salon side, we continue to expand our education systems, refine our service experiences, and support the development of our incredible team of wholehearted hairstylists.

And on a much lighter note…

🎉 Left Coast Salon is turning FIVE this June! 🎉

We’ll be hosting a tropical-inspired community birthday celebration on June 20, and we’d love to see you there.
